Apparently today is National Dog Day, however I don’t really need a day to celebrate my dogs. My life wouldn’t be the same without them and for that I am forever grateful! Today’s walk made me think that it may be fun to share a few of my favorite places to take my dogs in the Bay Area – specifically the East Bay where I live, so here we go!
#1 – We are all about off-leash places, and this place (where these photos were taken) is the closest to us in San Leandro. The Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline has great trails and sky high bushes for the dogs to run through and be crazy. You can also watch the planes fly right into the Oakland airport while you are out walking around, because the runway is directly in front of the shoreline.
#2 – Pretty much any brewery in the Bay Area allows dogs, but one of our favorites is Faction Brewery in Alameda. You have a killer view of the San Francisco skyline and the Bay Bridge while enjoying a pint or three. Dogs aren’t allowed inside, but you must check out the quirky artwork all over the hanger walls inside on the way to the bathrooms.
#3 – Redwood Regional Park in Oakland is incredible and has a couple of off-leash trails. If you start at the Skyline Gate Staging Area you can access multiple trail heads at once. I suggest getting there early if you can so you can grab a parking spot. There are a lot of trail runners and cyclists on these trails so just be aware that on weekends it can be pretty busy.
One thing I love most about living in California is that there are so many dog friendly places, and the amount of outdoor activities is limitless! Get out there and enjoy some good times with your dogs! 🙂
