My Makeup Collection

To be honest, I focus more on skincare than makeup due to my long history with acne and sensitive skin, but I can’t deny makeup is fun sometimes! I have more makeup than some but I definitely have less than a makeup enthusiast. I have just enough for daytime makeup, which is usually very minimal, and some for more dramatic, evening makeup.

My personal makeup rules:

  • Wear brown eyeliner – because I am so fair, black eyeliner is too intense for me day to day. I will wear black on 2 occasions. In the evenings, or when I wear liquid/gel eyeliner because I can get the liner more precise.
  • Bronzer always, rarely blush – I have very pink undertones in my skin and I blush easily. There is no need for me to wear blush because I try to avoid adding redness to my skin. Occasionally I will wear a deep pink (like Benefit Rockateur) or a peachy blush, but never bright or baby pink tones.
  • Avoid lipstick, unless it is red/berry color – As a general rule for myself I avoid lipstick as much as possible. Maybe it is due to my great dislike of the “lipstick on the teeth” look. It is kind of embarrassing having a full conversation with someone while not knowing you have lipstick on your teeth. However, I do LOVE red lipstick. It is so classic and sexy! I will wear red lipstick (or berry toned lipstick in the fall/winter) in the evenings, but I am constantly checking in the mirror to ensure I don’t have it everywhere. It can be a mess so I reserve the red lips for special occasions.
  • If I wear color on my eyes it is purple, burgundy, or copper toned because I have green eyes – I avoid green and blue colors on my eyes and go for warm toned contrasting colors. It makes my green eyes pop and that is the one part of my face I like to emphasize.

Face and Eye Brushes – I have a few MAC brushes, but for the most part they are drug store brushes. My favorite brushes are from Real Techniques. They have the best brushes for the whole face and are reasonably priced. The gold, rose gold and silver Real Techniques brushes are even better, and so much more luxe with their metal handles, but you can buy them in the drugstore section at ULTA.
